CTK Students Participate in a Video Conference with Canadian Astronaut David Saint-Jacques!

The Grade 6-8 students had an amazing opportunity to participate in a video conference with Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques. We were one of five schools in Canada that took part and only one of two elementary schools. The following schools participated: Greenall High School (Saskatchewan); Christ The King School (Manitoba); John Fraser Secondary School (Ontario); Courtland Park International School (Quebec); and Bonar Law Memorial School (New Brunswick).

The event was live streamed on the Canadian Space Agency You Tube channel and can be viewed as a past live stream video. The link to it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ktR3eZ6GdY.

Each school asked three questions. Our students asked: Who or what inspired you to become an astronaut?; What are you most excited about and what is your mission?; How far do you think space travel and space science will go?

David Saint-Jacques did a very good job of answering all the questions posed to him and the students enjoyed the experience. Our Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Rob Praznik, was able to attend as well. It was an educational experience that everyone will remember for a  very long time!

New playground for Christ the King School!

A sod turning ceremony was held June 202018 to kick off the development of a new playground for Christ the King School, located at 12 Lennox Ave. Neighborhood residents, school families and staff and dignitaries took part in the ceremony.

The playground improvements will be carried out in three phases; the first phase to be completed this fall includes removing existing pea gravel and replacing it with Engineered Wood Fiber, installing new play equipment and adding a picnic table and bench seating. Phase 2 (2019-20) will focus on landscaping the school’s field area and creating a space for an outdoor classroom. Phase 3 will see landscaping improvements to enhance the school’s south entrance.

Funding for Phase 1 was made possible through a $30,000 Community Incentive grant through the City of Winnipeg and St. Vital Counsellor Brian Mayes.  Additional funds were raised by the Christ the King School Parent Advisory Committee, the Lennox Club, the board of Christ the King School and by students attending the school.

Background:

Christ the King School is a not for profit, incorporated Catholic School community located at 12 Lennox Street in Winnipeg Manitoba (St. Vital Ward). The school and adjoining Christ the King Church operate within the Archdiocese of St. Boniface.
